Tax Litigation

Our tax litigation unit acts for taxpayers who are facing investigations by HMRC. We act for businesses and individuals who have been contacted by HMRC with questions about their tax affairs. This includes businesses accused of suppression of takings. The unit is headed by Roger Hahn a litigation partner of 30 years experience with Higher Rights of Advocacy who deals with all aspects including advocacy in court. This means that in most cases there is no need to use a barrister as well. Roger is backed up by Sykes Anderson’s non contentious tax team.

We adopt a highly professional approach with HMRC, analysing for technical, procedural and factual flaws in their case. We are proactive in your defence with direct access to Roger Hahn at all times.

Fees

There is a fixed fee of £2,000 + VAT to initially assess your case. This includes reviewing correspondence you have received from HMRC, meeting with you and if you wish your accountant and preliminary advice on your position all confirmed to you after the meeting in writing.

The case can be funded either on an hourly rate or where appropriate on a contingency (no win no fee) basis based on a percentage of the back tax HMRC is claiming.
